Cancer Care

A cancer diagnosis can be one of the scariest things a pet owner has to endure. It is our goal to provide your pet with care that is not only comprehensive but also compassionate. There are many treatments offered through our clinic that can be used alone or in conjunction with traditional therapies like chemotherapy.

Many owners ask, “How much time can I get with my pet after they’ve been diagnosed with cancer?” This is a reasonable question but a difficult one to answer. Just as every pet is different in breed, age and personality, so each pet is different in their response to therapy.

Additionally, certain cancers are more responsive to treatment like chemotherapy or surgical intervention than others. Factors like your pet’s overall health and age also impact prognosis. Instead, we try to focus on quality over quantity and work our hardest to make sure your pet has as much happy, healthy time with you as possible.

We offer a number of therapies to assist in cancer management:

Nutrition recommendations: diets that are high in quality proteins, free of grains and low in carbohydrates are highly recommended for cancer patients. It is not recommended that dogs and cats with immune system problems consume a raw food diet. Instead we have healthful alternatives including commercially prepared foods (canned, kibble, dehydrated and freeze-dried options) or home prepared diet recipes.

Supplements to maintain healthy immune function: we offer herbal and other natural products that improve immune function and decrease cancer cell replication. We only carry supplies from reputable companies with a demonstrated record of quality. Remember when researching on the internet: if a product sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Dr. Sivula is happy to evaluate supplements you may be interested in during the new patient evaluation at our office.

Acupuncture and chiropractic therapies: not only are these relaxing and enjoyable, but they can improve overall health and stimulate appetite.

Massage therapy and energy medicine: these therapies can increase circulation, flush toxins from the body and improve mood. They feel great, and we can even teach you how to do them at home, affording your pet some great one-on-one time with you (and that has tremendous healing power).

A caring doctor and helpful staff: compassion can seem in short supply sometimes, and we make enormous effort to provide you with the professional support and personal caring that is so important during this battle. We understand your dedication to your pet’s care and we’re honored to be a part of it.
